Bashlin Climbing Spikes

Bashlin makes a complete line of climbing products from safety belts to climbing spikes. Some of the products include Bashlin pole climbing spikes and Bashlin tree climbing spikes. The Bashlin spikes are made either with steel frame or aluminum frame for weight saving with the sharp points (gaffs) on some that are replaceable. You might hear tree climbing spikes referred to as gaffs or spurs but that actually only refers to the replaceable sharp points.

Tree climbing spikes are different than pole climbing spikes. Pole climbing spikes are shorter because they do not have to go through bark to bite into solid wood. Also consider the replaceable gaffs if you do a lot of climbing. The fixed spikes are initially cheaper and if you only use them a few times a year the fixed are the way to go, but the replaceable is the everyday use choice as you do not want to replace the whole unit every time the gaffs wear down.

Remember tree spikes can harm a tree so if you are using them on a live tree that is to be left standing you should use them sparingly. For the arborist and tree remover when removing or thinning trees they are invaluable. Always remember safety first. Even a a small slip or fall can hurt or injure you so place your footholds carefully. Don't forget the gaff covers too for when you are just walking around with your spikes on. Bashlin supplies the covers too.

I have used both the Bashlin pole climbing spikes on my job as a lineman and the Bashlin tree climbing spikes when I was clearing away some trees away from the house that were getting overgrown. However I have been searching for Bashlin mountain climbing spikes, the ninja climbing spikes style. Has anyone seen these They are spikes that go under your feet and act like bear claws and the hand spikes act in a similar manner, excellent for slippery climbs.
